Exhibition statement: Names like Philando Castille, Freddie Gray and Eric Garner create social media frenzies, but a week later another name fills their place. Our reactionary efforts such as marching, protesting, and rioting all contribute to social movements that are extinguished just as fast as they are ignited. Some of us believe we have the blueprint for change until we pull back the layers and see just how deep the problem is rooted.
In "Full Circle" Anthony Patterson examines police violence against Black Americans through multiple lenses. The work does not only address the problem, but also opens the dialogue to many underlying issues. This body of work reflects the artist's year-long engagement with the subject matter.
